Carmel Swim Club sends 12 swimmers to Phillip 66 Nationals

Carmel Swim Club is sending 12 swimmers to compete at the Phillips 66 Nationals Championships, which open in Indianapolis on Tuesday, June 27, at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI. Eight of the Carmel swimmers are competing in their first national championship.
The Carmel Swim Club qualifiers consists of:
 Claire Adams (100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle)
 Amy Bilquist (Cal Aquatics and Carmel) (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle)
 Brennen Berger (200 breaststroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke)
 Sammie Burchill (200 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 400 individual medley, 100 backstroke, 200 IM)
 Wyatt Davis (200 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 50 backstroke, 400 freestyle, 100 backstroke)
 Lauren Edelman (200 butterfly, 200 breaststroke, 400 IM, 200 IM)
 Rachel Hayden (200 freestyle)
 Drew Kibler (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 400 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 50 freestyle)
 Emma Nordin (800 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 400 IM, 200 IM)
 Kelly Pash (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 400 IM, 200 IM)
 Trude Rothrock (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 IM, 50 freestyle)

Carmel Swim Club and Carmel High School alumni Veronica Burchill will also be competing for Athens Bulldogs and UGA.
“We are extremely proud to have such a large group qualify for the Phillips 66 National Championships this year,” said Head Coach Chris Plumb. “We look forward to competing with the best swimmers in the country while making a strong impact on the meet.”
The 12 athletes are among the top 0.5 percent of swimmers from across the country to qualify for the Phillips 66 National Championships.
The competition opens on Tuesday, June 27, and runs through Saturday, July 1. Prelims begin each day of competition at 9 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. All-session, single-day and single-session tickets are on sale now at usaswimming.org.
Current ticket specials for Phillips 66 Nationals include buy one, get one free using the code “BOGO,” and 50 percent off groups of 20 or more tickets using the code “GROUP.”
This meet serves as the qualifier for the U.S. team in the pool competition at the 2017 FINA World Championships, which runs from July 23-30 in Budapest, Hungary. The winner of each Olympic event will claim an automatic spot on the roster, and a complete team selection procedure is outlined at usaswimming.org. Outside of the Olympic Games, the FINA World championships are the sport’s largest international competition.
Results at Phillips 66 Nationals also will qualify individuals for the U.S. rosters for the World University Games and FINA World Junior Championships – set for Aug. 23-28 in Indianapolis – later this summer.
Twelve hours of television coverage from Phillips 66 Nationals will be aired by NBC Sports Group with nightly broadcasts on NBC Sports Network and Universal HD and four hours of coverage on NBC on July 1-2. A webcast of the meet also will be available on usaswimming.org.
The Phillips 66 National Championships are part of the 2017 Team USA Summer Champions Series, presented by Comcast. The Champions Series showcases numerous Olympic sports throughout the season, highlighting the year-round quest of Team USA athletes to compete at the Olympic Games.
During the past 43 years, the Carmel Swim Club has established itself as the best swimming team in Indiana and one of the top club teams in the United States.
