Carmel has been named the No. 2 Best Place to Live in the U.S. by Livability.com. This prestigious 2026 ranking recognizes Carmel as a premier destination that offers the elusive “sweet spot”: a thriving career market, an attainable cost of living, and a community where residents are more than just a number.

“This recognition from Livability reinforces what our residents already know: Carmel is a community built for big dreams,” Mayor Sue Finkam said. “Whether you are starting a new chapter, looking for a place to raise a family or enjoying your senior years, our city is ready to welcome you.”

Livability’s annual list evaluates small- to mid-sized cities (populations 75,000 to 500,000) where quality of life is the priority. The methodology analyzes nearly 100 data points across eight categories, with Carmel showing particular strength in safety, housing and cost of living, health, and transportation.
