Carmel Police need help catching jewel thief

Due to some recent inquires, Carmel Police is reissuing a news release to seek additional assistance in identifying a burglary suspect. The person pictured is suspected in about 16 burglaries that have occurred in the southwest area of Carmel over the last year. He typically targets larger homes and primarily takes jewelry and other valuables. It appears the suspect is a tall, slender male with olive or light brown skin wearing a dark sweat suit.

If anyone has any information regarding this suspect, please contact the Carmel Police Department Investigations Division at 317-571-2500. Homeowners are strongly encouraged to immediately report any suspicious or unusual activity in their neighborhoods to the Carmel Police at 317-571-2580 or by dialing 911. Home safety tips

  • Be extra cautious about locking doors and windows when you leave the house, even for a few minutes.
  • Set your alarm.
  • Make sure your surveillance cameras are working properly.
  • When leaving home for an extended time, have a neighbor or family member watch your house and pick up your newspapers and mail.
  • Indoor and outdoor lights should be on an automatic timer.
  • Utilize motion sensor lights.
  • Do not leave your garage doors open.
  • Leave a radio or television on so the house looks and sounds occupied.
  • Please utilize the vacation check program when you are away from home.
