Carmel officials on Wednesday kicked off the start of what they’re hoping is an age-old tradition.
A pie-eating contest for all ages hosted by the Carmel Clay History Museum racked in hundreds Wednesday evening as part of the Americana on main celebrations. Those who managed to scarf down the dessert the fastest earned bragging rights for the evening.
Even Carmel Police Department officers got in on the action. A sight some say was worth the watch.

“When we first reached out to some different groups, the policemen were the first to say yes,” said Debbie Gangstad, executive director for the Carmel Clay Historical Society. “So many times, our youth are seeing the police at the worst moment of their lives, so it’s always good to see the when you’re having a good time.

And for those wondering, the pie contestants ate was apple.
