Dear Editor:

Don’t underestimate the value of local elected offices!

There’s a lot of “buzz” and a lot of advertising money being spent on state and federally elected offices, but I urge voters not to ignore locally elected offices.

Elected officials for local offices can have a significant impact on your government services and on your bank account.

For example, most people I’ve spoken to have been surprised to learn the county treasurer is responsible for investing county funds. They are even more surprised at the significant impact investment returns have on county revenues, especially when the investment environment is as favorable for short-term government back securities as it has been recently.

I urge voters to do their research on all offices and all candidates for office and use their critical thinking skills to judge if the candidates’ comments and objectives make sense.

Read candidate bios in The Reporter and go to vote411.org to learn more. Go to the polls armed with knowledge!
