July 27, 1942 – January 22, 2026
With a heart overflowing with love, an unyielding dedication to her faith, and a spirit that radiated generosity, Boneta Joyce Hancock, fondly known as Joyce, left an indelible mark on the world.
Born on July 27, 1942, near Rover, Mo., Joyce’s journey was one filled with joy, love, and an unwavering commitment to her family, her faith, and the cause of education. On January 22, 2026, she completed her earthly journey, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide many.
Joyce’s life was a testament to her loving and thoughtful nature. She married the love of her life, Steven Hancock, on May 24, 1967, and together they created a beautiful family, residing in Noblesville after living in various places, including New Orleans, La.; Hamilton and Cincinnati, Ohio; and West Hills, Inglewood, and Lakewood, Calif.; and Lawrence and Cicero, Ind.
Joyce was a dedicated mother to her children, Stefani (Doug) Hancock-Barnes and Scott (Rosalia) Hancock; a doting grandmother to her many grandchildren, Bryce (Lisa) MacDonald, Daniel (Kate) Hancock, Gabriella (Mark) Gonzalez, Jacquelyn (Joey) Peay, Henry Grant III, Joseph Hancock, Joshua Johannsen, Maria Hancock, Michaela (Dom) Xayasomloth, Hayley (Isiais) Diaz, and Samantha (Austin) Hill; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also a beloved sister to Wilda (Bob) Pingel, Mary Jo (Roger) Freeman, and Mark (Pam) Willard, and a cherished aunt to several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Bertha Willard.
Joyce’s passion for education saw her serving in many roles throughout her career, including as the Vice Principal of Lawrence Christian School and as a Professor at Cincinnati Christian Seminary. She loved her profession, but her love for teaching extended beyond the classroom. She found joy in teaching her grandchildren, and her hobbies of scrapbooking, reading, and gardening were avenues for her to impart wisdom and create lasting memories. She loved to sing and perform with her sisters, and she found fulfillment in being a part of her church groups and small groups. Her faith was the bedrock of her life, and she served her church community by teaching Sunday School and running several different Sunday Departments.
Joyce’s life was a beautiful melody of love, faith, and dedication. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Friends and family are invited to remember Joyce during visitation hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. The funeral service will be held at the same venue at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026. A private burial will take place following the services at Hamilton Memorial Park.
