The University girls will play for the Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference championship in January following their 55-38 win Friday night over Muncie Burris at historic Ball Gymnasium.
Hannah Grubbs and Keira Bright led the way for the Trailblazers, who won the PAAC North Division championship for the seventh consecutive season. Grubbs scored 23 points on 11 of 15 shooting, pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds and added six blocked shots. Bright had 19 points, including a trio of three pointers and had six rebounds and five steals.
University was in control throughout the game, leading by as many as 33 points before Burris closed the game on an 18-2 run.
Grubbs opened the scoring with a layin from the right block just 15 seconds into the game. After University forced a five-second violation on the ensuing inbound play Leah Norvell fed Grubbs for another bucket. The Blazers scored the last 11 points of the period and led 20-3 after the opening stanza. Grubbs had eight points in the quarter and Bright had seven.
The Trailblazers controlled the second period as well, leading by as many as 23 points before taking a commanding 34-13 lead to the locker room. Grubbs and Bright each had six points in the quarter.
University extended their lead to 51-20 after three quarters as Grubbs scored another seven points in the period.
Mack Feeney had six points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. Norvell handed out a game-high six assists to go with her five points.
University will host the PAAC South division champion on Saturday January 13 at 2:00 p.m. at The U Center. Indianapolis Shortridge can clinch the South division championship with a win Saturday against Bethesda Christian. The Patriots can clinch the South with wins over Shortridge and Park Tudor (January 9).
University is now 4-3 on the season, Burris falls to 0-9.
The Trailblazers are next in action Wednesday evening when they host Mooresville Christian at The U Center. Tip is at 6 p.m.
