Boys score convincing victory over Seton Catholic

The University boys broke a two game losing streak with a convincing 95-37 win over Seton Catholic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Monday afternoon.
Senior sharpshooter Max Greenamoyer led the way for the Trailblazers with 25 points, five rebounds and four steals. Greenamoyer was accurate beyond the 3-point stripe, making six of nine attempts.
The ‘Blazers set the tone for the day in the first minute of the game, turning defense in to offense and sharing the ball for easy baskets. Joe Martin made the first of 17 University steals, kicked the ball ahead to Greenamoyer who found a streaking Jacob Sager for a layin. University had assists on 31 of their 38 made field goals. Senior point guard Sam Mervis had 13 assists in the game and a co-team high five rebounds.
University led 5-0 before Seton Catholic scored five quick points to knot the contest. The Trailblazers took the lead for good at 7-5 midway through the quarter as Martin found Camden Brown for a bucket at the rim. Brown finished with 13 points. Martin had four steals and six assists along with six points.
University scored 22 points in the final four minutes of the first quarter and led 27-9 after the first period. Greenamoyer had 11 points, including two three pointers and an old-fashioned three-point play.
The Trailblazers kept the pressure up in the second quarter, adding 26 more points to lead 53-20 at halftime. Sager had eight points at the second period and finished with 10 points in the game.
University substituted liberally through the contest and the Trailblazers bench players responded. Senior Faizan Eskar had the first double-digit scoring game of his career with 11 points. Matt Jones and Larry Pierce each had eight points and Aaron Stallings scored six. The Trailblazers shot 59 percent for the evening.
“I felt this was a good bounce back game after dropping two tough games over the weekend,” said University coach Brandon Lafferman. “We got production from every single player, starters and bench. That’s a good way to go in to the holiday as we get ready to go to Bedford. We will have four tough games down there.”
The Trailblazes are now 5-2, 2-0 in Pioneer Academic Athletic Conference North Division play. Seton Catholic is 3-5, 1-1 in PAAC North action.
University starts play in the Bedford North Lawrence tournament Friday with games against Class 4A Evansville Harrison and Milan. The Trailblazers will close out pool play Saturday morning against the host Bedford North Lawrence Stars.
