‘Blazers cruise at Clinton Prairie

THE REPORTER

University’s dynamic senior duo of Payton Seay and Kelsey DuBois led the way Tuesday night as the Trailblazers cruised to a 59-33 win at Clinton Prairie.

Seay scored 25 points, handed out seven assists and recorded four steals. DuBois controlled the paint and had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while blocking a half dozen shots.

University overwhelmed the Gophers in the first quarter with a swarming pressure defense and a balanced scoring attack to lead 20-9 at the end of the first and gradually increased their advantage throughout the contest.

Prairie’s Sydney Swan hit a three pointer to open the scoring but the Blazers ran off the next 13 points. Payton Seay got things started with a steal and layin before Jordan Patterson fed DuBois for a bucket. Payton Seay scored again for a 6-3 lead before Taylor Seay scored after Alex Feeney grabbed a rebound. The leased went to 11-3 on a Patterson old-fashioned three-point play after a Payton Seay steal. Seay ended the run at 13-3 at the midway mark of the quarter off a Patterson steal. Six different Trailblazers scored in the opening quarter.

University stretched their lead to 34-15 at halftime. Payton Seay had six in the quarter and DuBois added four. University led by 22 late in the quarter when Anyah Jordan-Turley found Payton Seay off an inbound play for an old-fashioned three-point play.

University maintained their lead at 19 through three quarters, leading 45-26 entering the final period. Payton Seay scored eight quick points in the fourth quarter as University led by as many as 31 points.

University pulled down 39 rebounds – in addition to 10 from DuBois, Feeney gathered nine caroms and Taylor Seay seven. Patterson handed out four assists.

University improves to 5-3 on the season while the Gophers fall to 4-4. Swan had 11 to lead Clinton Prairie.

The Trailblazers have a quick turnaround as they play at Anderson Prep Thursday night as they begin defense of their PAAC championship. There is no junior varsity game. Tipoff against the 7-1 Jets is at 6:30 pm at The Hangar.
