The Westfield Lions Club conducts two Poker for Sight Texas Hold’em tournaments each year. Said to be some of the largest charity poker competitions in the Midwest, they are the prime fundraisers for the club’s charitable functions.

This year’s fall event, held on Nov. 17 and 18, saw 306 players from all over Indiana and surrounding states vie for the $25,000 purse, with the winner’s share of $10,000 going to Spenser Grosvenor of Indianapolis.

“We currently rent an apartment, but this will be a down payment on a new home for us,” Grosvenor said.

Event Chairman Lion Mike Birk said, “We really want to thank our very loyal players, some have been playing poker with us for eight or 10 years. The important thing for the Lions is really all the things we can do to help people with the money we raise here. Our events help people in a direct and tangible way.”

As has now become a custom, the Westfield Lions Club presents checks to local charities at the start of each of three-qualification rounds and the beginning of the championship round. This year Open Doors, Student Impact, Third Phase Homeless Shelter, and the Indiana Diabetes Youth Camp all received $1,500 donations.
