Carmel won the junior varsity competition at the Indiana Cheer Championship, which took place Saturday at Decatur Central High School. This event is the first week of the annual cheer championship, which is conducted through the Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP).
In addition to the JV team’s success, the Carmel varsity all-girl stunt group finished in second place in its competition. The stunt group team was one of five in the state to compete in the partner stunt division.
Earlier this month, on Saturday, Oct. 6, the Greyhounds took part in the Pendleton Heights Competition. Carmel’s varsity team finished first out of 11 teams, while the JV squad was second out of 10 teams. The Greyhounds later hosted a “Share the Spirit” event at Carmel High School on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The varsity cheer championship begins Saturday at Greenfield-Central High School, with all varsity teams competing in the preliminary round. Information can be found on the IASP web site. Carmel will compete in the varsity round, along with Hamilton Southeastern, Westfield, Fishers and Noblesville, the two-time defending state champion.
All of the schools will compete in the Varsity A division, and will perform at the following times:
Carmel – 6 p.m.
Hamilton Southeastern – 6:06 p.m.
Noblesville – 6:30 p.m.
Westfield – 6:42 p.m.
Fishers – 7:06 p.m.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Also, the top 60 percent advance to the state finals, which take place on Saturday, Nov. 3 at New Castle High School.
The IASP website also announced the 2018 Indiana Academic All-State Cheer Team, and one of the honorees is Lydia Eisenmann of Hamilton Southeastern. Eisenmann is one of 12 cheerleaders selected to the team; she will receive a $100 scholarship.
