The Hamilton Heights baseball team traveled to Lawrence Central on Thursday and came home with a 9-5 victory.
The Huskies led from the start, scoring two runs in the first inning. Dillon Pitts singled in Josh Newton for the first run, then Cy Mason’s line drive sent Pitts home.
The Bears scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, then took a 3-2 lead after two innings. Heights tied the game with a fifth-inning run; PJ Wright doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
The Huskies took control of the game in the sixth inning by scoring six runs. Tyson Upchurch led off with a double and was batted in by Newton, then AJ Flanagan scored after Pitts reached on error and loaded the bases.
Wright drew a walk, sending Newton home. Mason hit a sacrifice fly to score Austin Kappes. Brennen Heckman finished things off with a two-run single into left field, bringing in Pitts and Wright.
Newton went 3-for-4 at the plate. Owen Hughes pitched a complete game, striking out 10.
Heights is 5-9 and plays this afternoon at Clinton Prairie.

Carmel fell to Center Grove 8-4 Thursday at Hartman Field.
The Trojans led 4-0 after three innings and put up four more in the top of the fourth. The Greyhounds scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Carmel is 5-9 and hosts Lawrence North on Friday.

Sheridan dropped a 16-5, six-inning Hoosier Heartland Conference home game to Rossville on Thursday.
The Hornets led 12-0 midway through the fourth inning. The Blackhawks got on the board in the bottom of the fourth: Brayden Whisman scored on a wild pitch, then Jake Hall and Austin Hinshaw both scored on passed balls.
Braelan Bochner smacked a home run in the fifth inning, also scoring Chance Spencer and getting Sheridan within 12-5. But Rossville scored four runs in the sixth inning to end the game.
Bochner finished the game with two hits.
The Blackhawks are 2-2 in conference play and 5-8 overall. Sheridan hosts Elwood Saturday morning.
