The Guerin Catholic baseball team began its season Monday with an 11-1, five-inning victory over visiting Delta.
The Golden Eagles put up five runs in the first inning. Ian Taylor batted in Nolan Ratcliff with a single, then Ben Canada scored on an error. Karson Smith blasted a triple to bring in Liam Zorger and Taylor, then Smith got home on an error.
Guerin Catholic added another five runs in the fourth inning. Ratcliff got home on Carson Kail’s sacrifice fly. Later, Grant Beard sent a home run over the center field fence, also scoring Taylor and Canada. Tate Troxell followed that with a solo homer into right field.
Delta got one run back in the top of the fifth inning, but Taylor hit a double to score Zorger and end the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Taylor was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4. Beard and Cooper Harmon both hit one double. Luke Gremelspacher pitched all five innings, striking out seven and allowing only two hits.
The Golden Eagles play their first road game today, traveling to Frankton for a 6 p.m. contest.
