Atlanta reader proud of Carmel wrestler

Dear Editor:

I just read the article on Page 8 of the Wednesday, July 31 edition of the Hamilton County Reporter about Carmel wrestler Suhas Chundi. What a fine young man he seems to be!

I would like to acknowledge Suhas for his impressive wrestling career, because I completely understand the dedication, sacrifice and “blood, sweat and tears” that goes in to being a successful wrestler. I’m the mother of three boys who were also wrestlers. I understand this young man.

More importantly, I’d like to acknowledge that while being such a good wrestler is impressive, the level of dedication he must have to his education is nothing short of amazing. This young man is incredibly accomplished academically. He also seems to have such a modest attitude, based on his own comments in the article.

I’ve lived a lot of years, but was very moved by the wisdom of this young man who, when he was wrestling at Bankers Life Fieldhouse for state, said he blocked the “big deal-ness” out of his brain “and tried to treat every match like any other match.”

“The same coaches were in my corner,” said Chundi. “I was working mostly the same moves and it was just the same opponent, in my mind, in front of me.”

That is amazing! How many of us put so much pressure on ourselves, but could benefit from the wisdom of looking at what lies ahead of us the same way?

I don’t know you Suhas, but you make me proud!
