Arthur Bortolini, Sr., 78, Carmel, passed away on October 18, 2023. He was born on May 13, 1945, in Gary, son of Victor and Thressa (Vacca) Bortolini.
Art, a 1969 graduate of Indiana University, was a long-time member of the trucking industry having worked for companies such as ROCOR and Donco before returning home to Indiana to work for liquid transport.
As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Art served his country from 1969 to 1971. Later, while living in Atlanta, Ga., he began his work serving the community as a member of the Jaycees, an organization encouraging men between ages 18 to 40, to serve and be an example of leadership in the community. After moving to Carmel, Art became a member the Service Club of Indianapolis, connecting with fellow members who also served in the military.
Art was an avid golfer, as well as a lover of all college sports, especially the Hoosiers. He enjoyed traveling, particularly when it allowed him to avoid birthday parties that would have been held in his honor.
In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by sisters, Leonilda and Patricia; brothers, Joseph and Spirit “Pete.”
Survivors include his devoted wife of 55 years, Karen; son, Art Jr., his wife Erin, their son James; and daughter, Jessica, her husband Wayne, and their son Luca.
Family and friends will gather at noon on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th St., Carmel, where the Celebration of Life service will begin at 1 p.m.
The family requests, in memory of Art, contributions be given to Life’s Journey Hospice or the Fisher House Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the service.
