Dear Editor:

Voting time is near.

As President of the Election Board, I see some of the voter confusion surrounding the voting process. It is always a good idea to check your registration in the month leading up to an election. If you want to check, visit IndianaVoters.com and click “Check Your Registration Record.” You can easily check your voting status.

You can find the Voter’s Bill of Rights in English or Spanish at the same location and obtain a Voter Registration Application, if needed. Sometimes voters believe they have registered to vote at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, but they have not fully completed the process. It is easy to double check that your registration has made it to the Election Office at IndianaVoters.com.

If you have a Boone County, Tipton County, Indianapolis, Zionsville, or Madison County address, make sure you’re registered in this county if you live here. There has been some past confusion with voters who live just inside Hamilton County but register elsewhere.

The newspaper does not typically endorse candidates, but individually I think Hamilton County would be well served by electing Chris Evans for judge of Superior Court 3, Trampas Whalin for Superior Court 4, David Najjar for Superior Court 5, Danica Eyler in Superior Court 8, and Paul Sweeney in Superior 9. You may have your own choices. All the candidates seem willing to talk to voters directly and answer questions. Evans has invited the public to appear in the Courthouse and observe how he manages cases as a currently presiding Magistrate, and Danica Eyler and Chadwick Hill have made that offer as well.

Make sure you are properly registered. Make sure you know where you are going to vote. Allow enough time to get the voting arena. Let the Election Office know if you have special needs for a travel board or an absentee ballot.

Become informed and vote.
