Alzheimer’s research fundraiser coming to Fishers next month

A community-driven effort is organizing in Fishers to help end Alzheimer’s disease once and for all. The Race to Remember to benefit the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17 at Witten Park in Saxony, 13256 Saxony Blvd., Fishers.

Alzheimer’s Disease affects over six million people. It is estimated that one in three seniors will die from Alzheimer’s disease, a rate greater than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. This year, one person will be diagnosed every 65 seconds with this dreaded disease. By 2050 the disease is projected to afflict one person every 33 seconds.

“Like many others, my family has been directly affected by Alzheimer’s disease,” Race to Remember Community Coordinator Irene Young said. “The disease claimed my father five years ago.”

Race to Remember will be a family-centered, community-driven annual event for Hamilton County. Proceeds from the event this year will benefit the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.

The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund gives 100 percent of its donation directly to Alzheimer’s disease research. Charity Navigator has recognized it as a Four-Star Charity – the highest rank a charity can receive for efficiency and transparency.

The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund endows the world’s leading Alzheimer’s research, provides rapid review for grant approvals, and inspires collaboration among fund scientists. The Fund’s Board of Directors pays for all overhead so that 100 percent of donations go to research.

Race to Remember needs community sponsors to help underwrite the run and to ensure a fun, safe community event. Sponsorship packages include recognition on signage, event T-shirts, and promotional materials to be included in participants’ run packets. The goal is to secure commitments by Wednesday, Aug. 10 to cover the following costs:

  • Police and Safety Sponsor: $1,000
  • Event and Course Sponsor: $800
  • T-shirt sponsor: $600
  • Memorial sponsor: $250
  • Patron/Team (five members): $150
