The 2018 high school football season in Hamilton County saw several dramatic changes in many teams’ schedules, mostly due to Franklin Central entering the Hoosier Crossroads Conference.
Now that the changes have taken place, the 2019 season is much more stable. Only two of the eight football-playing schools have different schedules, and those are only one-game adjustments.
Guerin Catholic dropped Indianapolis Howe from its lineup, replacing the Hornets with a second Michigan team. The Golden Eagles will host Birmingham Rice during Week 8 of the season, this after Guerin Catholic welcomes Pontiac Notre Dame; GC played at Pontiac last year. The Golden Eagles are moving their Circle City Conference game with Brebeuf Jesuit from Week 8 to Week 4 to replace Howe.
Sheridan will also have a new team in its lineup. The Blackhawks will play Delphi during Week 4, with the Oracles replacing Heritage Christian. Sheridan played the Eagles during Week 9 last year, but will move last year’s Week 4 opponent, Carroll, to Week 9 for its season-finale.
Also of note: Fishers will again open its season against North Central, but the two teams will play each other at Lucas Oil Stadium. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, and likely will be the very first game of the 2019 high school football season.
As for other openers, Carmel plays at Louisville Trinity, Guerin Catholic travels to McCutcheon, Hamilton Heights heads to Mount Vernon. Sheridan will play at Western Boone, the defending Class 2A state champion. County teams playing their season-openers at home will be Hamilton Southeastern (against Lawrence Central), Noblesville (against Cathedral) and Westfield (against Harrison).
