Indiana author Amy Thornton Shankland will host her book launch of Happy and Solo at Church – Light Your Fire and Worship with Joy from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 10 in the Community Room of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 E. 191st St., Noblesville.

Happy and Solo at Church, published by Elk Lake Publishing, weaves the author’s own story throughout the book – from bad, to worse, to better than ever before.

“Years ago, I was a miserable lump sitting alone in the pew and almost left my church,” Shankland said. “Thanks to a transformational moment, the Holy Spirit touched my life and helped me change it. I began going to church because I wanted to, not because I had to.”

The book discusses what places of worship are doing (and not doing) for people attending church solo. It shares stories of others facing and overcoming the challenge of attending church alone. Happy and Solo at Church talks about how readers can build and strengthen their foundation, an important first step before any of techniques can work.

Finally, the book moves move into what steps people can take to thrive solo at church – and to help other solo attendees. It reveals how to:

  1. Find and build relationships with “God” friends.
  2. Create a church family.
  3. Successfully raise children as a solo person in the church.
  4. Stop making church just a Sunday, Saturday, or other “once a week” thing.

Each chapter includes pages with questions/reflections to help readers think about their own solo situation. Can’t make the launch? You can order your copy on Amazon at tinyurl.com/43jbub2j.
