Baseball: Tigers take trophy

An incredible pitching performance from Gavin Kuzniewski and some big late-game hitting clinched the Mudsock baseball trophy for Fishers on Friday.

The Tigers beat Hamilton Southeastern 4-0 on their field to take the second game of the Mudsock series, giving Fishers a 2-0 lead in the best-of-three game series. The two teams will finish the series tonight at the Royals’ Ken Seitz Field.

Kuzniewski pitched a complete game for the Tigers and allowed just one hit. He struck out 10 batters and walked two.

Fishers got on the board in the fourth inning when Evan Doran hit a left field double that scored Ben Hammond. The Tigers added three more runs in the fifth inning, when Jack Brown and Quinn Seefeldt both scored on wild pitches. Doran scored a sixth-inning run on an error.

Noah McPeek and Brevin Barker both had hits for the Tigers.

Nolan Colbert had the Royals’ lone hit in the fifth inning. Ethan Lund went five innings for Southeastern, striking out nine and allowing two hits.

The game was also a Hoosier Crossroads Conference contest, and both teams are 5-3 in league play. Fishers is 12-7 overall, while the Royals are 10-9 overall.
