County’s baseball teams see widespread action, some success in Wednesday’s games

Fishers won an all-county and Hoosier Crossroads Conference baseball game on Wednesday, beating Westfield 10-0 at the Tigers’ field in the first game of an HCC series.

Fishers scored four runs in the first inning. Jack Brown sent a one-out home run over the left field fence, then Quinn Seefeldt tripled in Gavin Clayton. Huston Dunn smacked a two-RBI double to bring in Noah McPeek and Caulin Brown.

Clayton cracked a second-inning home run, also scoring Jack Brown, and the Tigers led 6-0. Fishers finished the game with four runs in the fifth inning: Caulin Brown batted in Jack Brown, then Dunn’s center field hit scored Clayton and McPeek. Caulin Brown scored on an error to end the game.

Dunn finished the game with four RBIs; he, Jack Brown and Caulin Brown all had two hits. Jack Brown pitched all five innings, striking out 10 with one hit and no walks.

Alex Rudolph got the Shamrocks’ lone hit, a first-inning single. Jacob Culp went four innings with six strikeouts.

The Tigers are 3-2 in conference play and 8-6 overall, while the Shamrocks are 2-3 in the HCC and 4-5 overall. The two teams will finish the series tonight at Westfield.

Hamilton Southeastern played to an HCC split with Avon, beating the Orioles 2-0 on Wednesday after falling at Avon 4-0 on Tuesday.

The Royals got the Wednesday win by scoring one run each in the third and fifth innings. Ty Bradle scored the first run, getting on base by smashing a two-out triple. Griffen Haas came up next and singled Bradle in. Haas also batted in the second run, bringing home Maddux Bach with a center field base hit.

Bradle pitched a complete game, with nine strikeouts against two hits.

In the Tuesday game, Cole Earlewine had two hits, while Nolan Colbert had one. Brady Strawmeyer pitched four and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Southeastern is 5-1 in the conference and 10-5 overall. The Royals play tonight at Mount Vernon.

Noblesville picked up an HCC victory at Franklin Central on Wednesday, beating the Flashes 5-3.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning. Jack Shade got the Millers on the board with a left field hit to score Bryce Riggs. In the third inning, Shade cracked a triple into right field, then got home when Aiden Ramsey hit a sacrifice fly.

Franklin Central tied the game in the fourth inning with a home run, then hit back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning to go up 3-2. Shade struck again in the seventh inning, with his right field double bringing home Logan Shoffner, who immediately went back on base to run for Shade. Ramsey then cracked a homer into left field, also scoring Shoffner and giving Noblesville the lead.

A strikeout from Nolan Decker finished the game. Decker pitched a complete game, striking out 12. Shade was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Trevor Corbett hit a first-inning double.

Noblesville is 4-1 in the conference and 9-3 overall. The Millers host the Flashes tonight to complete the conference series.

A tremendous second inning led to a comfortable Hoosier Conference East Division win for Hamilton Heights on Wednesday.

The Huskies beat Tipton 12-6 in a home game, sweeping the division series. The Blue Devils scored a run in the first inning, but it was all Huskies in the second inning as they put up nine runs.

Dillon Pitts tripled in Phoenix Vondersaar for the first run, then scored himself when Alex Rickey reached on error. Rickey got home when Nick Hulen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Dean Mason came up next and singled in Colin Kuhn and Kaleb Murray.

Vondersaar walked to load the bases again. Adam Hughes and Pitts also drew walks, scoring Hulen and John Irion respectively. Rickey then delivered a base hit to bring in Vondersaar and Hughes, and the score was 9-1.

Tipton scored two runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth, but the Huskies stayed in front with timely RBIs. Hughes batted in Mason to score a fourth-inning run, then Hulen hit an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning, also scoring Vondersaar.

Pitts was 2-for-3 at the plate. Rickey went three innings for the pitching win.

Heights is 2-2 in the division and 7-4 overall. The Huskies host Elwood Saturday in a doubleheader.

Guerin Catholic got a Circle City Conference sweep on Wednesday, beating Brebeuf Jesuit 4-2 at the Braves’ field.

The Golden Eagles got on the board with their first swing: Will Fremion hit a home run to begin the game. Brebeuf tied the game in the bottom of the second, but Guerin Catholic soon was back in front with three runs in the third. Sam Tabor scored when AJ Nunley reached on error, then later scored on an error. Daulton Phillips then got a center field hit to score Aiden Ochall.

Phillips was 3-for-4, while Fremion and Davis Wagner both had two hits. Troxell and Fremion both doubles. Troxell pitched five innings for the win, striking out five.

The victory keeps the Golden Eagles unbeaten in the conference at 5-0. Guerin Catholic is 9-1 overall and travels to Lafayette Central Catholic on Friday afternoon to play the Knights in the opening round of the Catholic Classic.

Sheridan dropped its Hoosier Heartland Conference opener at Clinton Prairie Wednesday by the score of 11-5.

The Blackhawks scored all five of their runs in the second inning. Camden Spencer got the first run on a wild pitch; he led off the inning with a double. Dayne Voege scored when Chance Spencer reached on error.

Chance Spencer got home after Caleb Alexander reached on error. Gavin Schwerdtfeger scored on a wild pitch, then Zach Bales singled in R Clayton for the fifth run. Sheridan led 5-0, but the Gophers scored three runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth to tie the game, then added six runs in the sixth.

Clinton Slopsema pitched four innings, tossing seven strikeouts.

The Blackhawks are 2-5 and host Eastern today in another HHC game.

University beat Lewis Cass 8-3 on Tuesday.

Seth Hogg hit a three-run home run, while Jimmy Caldwell hit a double and totaled three RBIs. Jake Hooker was 2-for-4, including a double and batted in two runs.

Three freshmen – Ryan Castetter, Caleb Stocker and Cooper Cammack – totaled 16 strikeouts for the Trailblazers.

University is 6-4 for the season.
