Shamrocks put up good fight against Goodpasture Christian in Tennessee

Westfield nearly made a comeback during the first game of its Tennessee trip on Thursday, before falling to Goodpasture Christian 11-8.

Goodpasture Christian led 9-0 after three innings, scoring four runs in each of the first two innings and one more in the third. The Shamrocks got on the board in the fifth inning with three runs: Colin Lindsey doubled in Caden Lindsey and Brayden Hibler, then Evan Russ batted in Colin Lindsey with a right field hit.

Westfield poured in another four runs in the sixth inning, cutting Goodpasture Christian’s lead to 9-7. Caden Lindsey scored on an error, then M Drozlek blasted a center field hit to bring in three runs; Hibler, Ty Anderson and Collin Lindsey scored.

Goodpasture Christian went up 11-7 in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run. The ‘Rocks got one run back in the bottom of the inning after Hibler doubled in Alex Rudolph, but a flyout ended the game.

Collin Lindsey hit two doubles for the game, with Hibler, Caden Lindsey and Rudolph all hitting one. Rudolph also hit one single, with Caden Lindsey and Anderson both hitting two singles. Andrew Nicholson threw four strikeouts in two and a third innings.

Westfield is 2-1 and plays two games in Knoxville today. The Shamrocks play Hardin Valley Academy at 1:30 p.m. and Bradley Central at 4 p.m.
