Those who enjoy and appreciate the art of dance absolutely must plan to join the Central Indiana Dance Ensemble (CIDE) as the Mixed Repertoire performs an exciting blend of classical, contemporary, and modern dance.

Onstage at The Tarkington on the campus of The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, the Mixed Rep dancers will move audiences with their grace and talent on Sunday, March 12.

CIDE is the Resident Company with The Tarkington; it is also the only pre-professional resident with The Tarkington. The Mixed Repertoire is made up of high school, middle school, and elementary students aged 11 to 18.

Students in this performance include seven graduating seniors, most of whom are going to college for dance. Past students have been recipients of scholarships to many top dance companies and schools including Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet. Graduates of the company have gone on to join Richmond Ballet, Charlotte Ballet, Butler Ballet, and Indiana University Dance Theatre, to name a few.

You will not want to miss one of the last chances you may have to see these talented young dancers in action.

Suzann DeLay, Founding Artistic Director and Executive Director, reflected on Mixed Rep:

“Mixed Rep has been delighting audiences since 2012, and the company continues to grow by leaps and bounds,” DeLay said. “This year it features excerpts from Giselle, new choreography by Dance Kaleidoscope’s Stuart Coleman, spectacular new pieces by the co-artistic directors Casey Clark and Ashley Jacobs and Jill Godwin, and Anna Davis! This a must-see event!”

A masterful example of classical ballet, Giselle, which debuted in 1841, relates the hauntingly romantic tale of ill-fated lovers. Facing the treachery of a rival, the nobleman Albrecht loses his fair beloved, Giselle, to a death marked by despair and heartache. Filled with sorrow, betrayal, and vengeance, but ultimately demonstrating the triumph of love, the ballet Giselle articulates the range of emotions surrounding love and accomplishes this through exquisitely executed movements showcasing romantic ballet at its finest.

“It has been a privilege to work with the dancers at Central Indiana Dance Ensemble the last two years,” said Stuart Lewis, Associate Artistic Director of Dance Kaleidoscope. “The dancers are a joy to work with; they are open-minded to new ways of applying their technique (which is outstanding), they are quick at picking up and retaining new choreography, and they are so supportive of each other and make the studio so pleasant to work in. They were patient with me as I figured out how I wanted to create this new piece ‘In the Heart of a Mountain’ and they really sunk their teeth in the dramatic, theatrical nature of it. I can’t wait to see how they perform it!”

Lewis is a company dancer for Dance Kaleidoscope in Indianapolis and also serves as its Associate Artistic Director and Director of Community Engagement.

On March 12, you also have the opportunity to share in the dramatic glory of dance by watching the breadth of CIDE’s elegance in the performance of Giselle, along with a stunning display of other varied dance selections.

The performance begins at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 12. Prior to the performance, beginning at 2 p.m., there will be a silent auction benefiting the company. Tickets are available at this link.
