Dr. Victoria Garcia Wilburn, candidate for Indiana House District 32 (Carmel, Fishers, Nora), defies the common misconception that a candidate or party must choose to either represent social or economic issues.
“Social issues are, in-fact economic issues,” said Wilburn, a researcher and healthcare professional by trade. “Hoosier families need leadership that not only understands the correlation but is willing to address it unabashedly.”
Wilburn continued, “Hoosiers are too smart to believe that a bloated rainy-day fund at the statehouse is the only measurement of success. They know that reinvesting their hard-earned tax dollars back into our communities will improve the quality of life for everyone in the state and strengthen our economy. Wise investments will inherently revive the state’s ailing public education, healthcare and infrastructure systems, which continually rank in the bottom ten in the nation. These are all integral parts of, yes … our economy.”
Many of Indiana’s economic institutions support Wilburn and share her vision, including The Indy Chamber Political Action Committee as well as the Indiana REALTORS®. As a professor and a board member of Hope Academy (Indiana’s only high school for teens battling substance use disorders), she’s gained endorsements from the American Federation of Teachers, Indiana Political Action Committee for Education, as well as the National Association of Social Workers, Political Action for Candidate Election.
Wilburn’s roots as the daughter of a hardworking small business owner mother and an active union member father gave her the experience and understanding that led to early endorsements from the AFL-CIO and UAW Region 2B.
“The endorsement of the UAW is never given, it is earned by those who stand with our members and their families to improve the lives of all working people,” writes Wayne Blanchard, Director Region 2B, UAW.
“I’m all for saving, but irresponsibly accumulating citizen’s tax dollars at the detriment of our community’s most basic needs isn’t fiscally responsible,” Wilburn said. “In fact, it’s a sign of dysfunction. I think of my fellow Hoosiers as my family, and in my house we take care of family. If that means standing up to the 12-year Supermajority in the Statehouse, then I’m ready for the job.”
