August 13, 1957 – September 24, 2022
Larry Eugene Brown, 65, passed away on Saturday, September 24 at his home. Larry was born on August 13, 1957, in Huntington, W.V., and grew up in the Marion and Huntington, Ind., area. He graduated from Huntington North High School in 1975.
Larry began his career as a proud member of the United States Army. During that time Larry served his country in various locations such as Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Shafter, Hawaii, and a joint services post near Augsburg, Germany. After the Army, Larry had a lengthy career as project manager at Pacific Volt, AT&T and ATS. He began his civilian career in Southern California, eventually relocating to Westfield to be near family. At each place, Larry made many friendships that lasted a lifetime. He reunited annually with friends he served with in the Army. He retired in 2021.
Outside of work Larry enjoyed coaching Pop Warner football, traveling to Las Vegas, singing karaoke (some would say his voice was “like a combination of Fergie and Jesus”), visiting and decorating his mother’s gravesite, and hanging out with family and friends.
After retirement, Larry devoted much of his time to the Cicero American Legion Post 341, working toward a better future for veterans. He and his girlfriend ran the kitchen, providing food and entertainment on Wednesday and Friday evenings. Joining the American Legion Riders and participating in the fundraising events brought him his greatest joy. Larry knew how to live in the present and was the life of every party. He was known to be a consummate optimist and to have a big heart. Larry cared about family, friends, and relationships. He did not care about material things – with the one exception of his Harley Davidson motorcycle, or Trans Am, or Corvette, or … well, he liked fast cars.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Bonnie (Billups) Brown.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Genoveva (Jenny) Estandarte; sons, Larry (Sabrina) and Dannon (Andrea); grandchildren, Logan, Tyler, Gavin, Jon, Ashley, Alex, Christiaan, Jack, and Carlo; siblings, Jeff (Mary), Lesa (Mark), Deana (Buck), and Tracey (Staci); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved and admired him.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 at the Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. An after-service reception will be hosted by Larry’s American Legion Post 341 brothers and sisters, next door at the post’s home, 50 Washington Ave., Cicero.
Memorial donations may be made to Cicero American Legion Post 341.
