Two Carmel artists strengthen their careers & communities through fellowships from the Indiana Arts Commission

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced Thursday it has awarded $64,000 to 32 creative Hoosier entrepreneurs to fund arts projects around the state through the agency’s On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator  program.

Each funded project will support the pursuit of a clearly defined business goal that also supports the entrepreneur’s community.

Locally, two artists from Carmel were each awarded $2,000 to build their dreams.

Joanne Roeder

“As a Fellow, my goal is to get Joanne Roeder Art on the web to subsidize my income. During phase two, I will gather a growing list of small Indiana towns artist groups. Beautiful art is being created in these rural areas. As a member of one of these groups we should share our workshop offerings, gallery shows, and activities.

“My goal is to keep living the dream by doing what I love every day.”

Cecily Terhune

“The IAC funds will be used to help me broaden my sphere by introducing uninitiated listeners to contemporary classical saxophone. I will record an album of solo and chamber contemporary classical saxophone pieces to share with audiences.

“My goal for this project is to record an album of contemporary classical saxophone works designed to draw in new listeners. This will be the first part in the path to publishing a final album. I will know that I have achieved my goal when I have recorded and mixed enough contemporary classical saxophone solo and chamber music for a full-length album. This should be 50 to 60 minutes of music.”

“These artists represent the incredible talent and entrepreneurial work that can be found in every corner of the Hoosier state,” IAC Executive Director Miah Michaelsen said. “This fellowship allows On-Ramp participants to grow their creative careers while strengthening their communities. We are proud to support this creative and economic growth across Indiana.”

About the On-Ramp Program

On-Ramp is a three-day accelerator course for Indiana-based creative entrepreneurs to foster their business skills, followed by a funded fellowship to put the learning into action. According to research performed by the IAC and course leader Elaine Grogan-Luttrull of Minerva Financial Arts, individuals from the inaugural cohort developed business knowledge and sustained skills following their participation in the program.

Applications to take part in the 2023 On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator will open later this fall. Click here to learn more.
