Tennis: Westfield bests Brownsburg

Westfield beat Brownsburg 3-2 in a Tuesday dual meet.

The No. 28-ranked Shamrocks swept both doubles matches against the No. 23 Bulldogs, with No. 1 Matt Drozlek and Parker Paramour coming back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 and No. 2 Jack Dietz and Gavin Dietz toughing out a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory. No. 2 singles Ben Jones won a three-hour match, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-5.

“It’s impressive when our players come out victorious in the third set. We needed all three of those to win the match,” said Westfield coach Tony Peters.

The Shamrocks won the junior varsity match 9-6.

University won a Monday dual meet over Danville 5-0.

Singles winners were No. 1 Owen Schellhase, No. 2 Kothe Birge and No. 3 Jack Pittman. Alex Ciano and Matthew Alcantara won the No. 1 doubles match, with Jasper Owens and Nick Quinto getting a No. 2 doubles victory.

Carmel traveled to Harrison on Wednesday for an early dual meet, with the No. 2-ranked Raiders edging out the No. 1 Greyhounds 3-2.

Carmel is next in action Saturday when it plays in the John Shirley Invitational at North Central.
