Softball: Royals, Greyhounds get wins; Millers’ Fowler hits four home runs in two days

Hamilton Southeastern broke out of a tie game with Richmond Wednesday, scoring six runs in the sixth inning to beat the Red Devils 10-4 in a home game.
The Royals scored two runs in the first inning. Taylor Larson and Lani Wyrick got home when Laila Wanza reached on error. Wanza doubled in a third-inning run, scoring Larson. Richmond took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth, but Southeastern tied it up in the bottom of the inning. Larson scored again, this time when Sage Ladig reached on error.
With the score 4-4, the Royals let loose in the sixth inning. Lani Wyrick doubled in the go-ahead run, scoring Tessa Sexauer. Larson then blasted a two-run single to send Wyrick and Emma Vance home. Ladig drew a walk, and that brought up Payton Fox, who sent a home run into center field, also scoring Larson and Ladig.
Larson was 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring four runs. Wanza went 3-for-4. Tori Donato pitched a complete game, allowing only two hits.
Southeastern is 10-10 and hosts Fort Wayne Carroll on Saturday morning.

Carmel held off Kokomo 5-4 in a Wednesday game at Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
The Greyhounds scored two runs in the second inning when Hope McDonald doubled in Paxton Law and Lily Sullivan. Carmel added another run in the third inning; Sophie Esposito got on base with a double, then scored when Sullivan batted her in.
Jessica Remm hit a fourth inning double, then was scored by another double from Esposito. McDonald then batted in another run in the fifth inning, with a single to score Sullivan. The Wildkats scored four runs in the sixth inning, but Carmel was able to hold them off.
Elsa Morrison was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Kylie Cunningham hit a double. Maddie Stacy got the pitching win.
The Greyhounds are 12-8 and play Friday at Terre Haute North.

Noblesville picked up a Hoosier Crossroads Conference win over Brownsburg 10-4 on Tuesday.
The Millers scored their first run in the first inning; Reis Sjoholm got home when Gabby Fowler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the second inning, Lauren DeRolf smacked a triple to score Tatum Ball.
The Bulldogs led 3-2 after four innings, but Fowler pushed Noblesville back ahead with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Kinsey Pfeiffer also scored, after leading off with a single. Later in the inning, Sjoholm singled in Erin Clark, then DeRolf had two-RBI base hit to score Sjoholm and Ball.
Fowler blasted another homer in the sixth inning, also scoring Maakena Pohlo. The Millers added one more run in the sixth inning when Ball scored on DeRolf’s RBI groundout.
Sjoholm and Fowler both had three hits. Lulu Van Beek went five innings and got the pitching win, with Emme Yee getting the save.
On Wednesday, Noblesville dropped a close game to Elwood 7-6. The Panthers led 3-0 midway through the fourth inning before the Millers got on the board. Fowler stepped up again, smacking a two-run home run into center field. Macy Duvall also scored.
Noblesville cracked two more homers in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Scout Duplaga sent a solo home run into left field, then Fowler hit her fourth homer in two days, another one into center field, also scoring Duvall.
Elwood put up four runs in the top of the seventh to get back in the lead. Sjoholm scored in the bottom of the seventh when Fowler was intentionally walked with the bases loaded and two outs, but a flyout ended the game.
Van Beek threw four strikeouts in four innings.
The Millers are 10-10 and play a home doubleheader with Leo on Saturday.

Guerin Catholic played defending Class 4A state champion Roncalli Wednesday in an away game, falling 3-0.
The Royals were led by pitcher Keagan Rothrock, who threw a perfect game, striking out 20. The Golden Eagles did well on defense, holding Roncalli to three runs in the third inning. Izzy Kemp pitched a complete game, striking out nine.
Guerin Catholic is 6-8 and hosts Western Boone on Friday.
