Softball: Carmel falls to No. 3 Mooresville

The Carmel softball team tried to make a comeback Friday at Class 4A No. 3 Mooresville, but fell just short by a score of 8-6.
The Pioneers led off with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Greyhounds got two runs back in the top of the second when Paxton Law batted in Maddie Stacy and Jessica Remm, who had gotten on base with a double.
Mooresville put up five runs in the fourth inning, including a grand slam, to lead 8-2. Carmel scored four runs in the sixth inning to start its run. Stacy drew a walk and advanced to third base after Remm hit another double. Both runner scored on an RBI single by Sophie Esposito.
Later, Ella Ohrvall got on base with a single, which moved Esposito to second. Esposito then scored on Kylie Cunningham’s RBI groundout, which also advanced Ohrvall to third base. Ohrvall then scored on a steal of home plate.
Ohrvall finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate. Lily Sullivan and Morrison both hit doubles.
Carmel is 10-7 and plays Monday at Fishers.
