Golden Eagles take care of Monroe Central

Guerin Catholic improved its record to 2-0 Friday with a big 8-4 win over Class 2A No. 2 Monroe Central at Grand Park.
The Golden Eagles were the first team to score, with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Will Fremion’s center field base hit scored AJ Nunley and Ryan Zimmerman.
The Golden Bears scored all four of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. Guerin Catholic got one run back in the bottom of the fourth when Sam Tabor scored. The Golden Eagles moved ahead in the fifth inning with three runs. Adam Novelen led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout, then went to third on Tabor’s base hit. Bryson Dorsey then stepped up and knocked in a triple to score both Novelen and Tabor. Dorsey later scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Zimmerman.
With that, Guerin Catholic led 6-4. The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the sixth inning. Anthony Ferrucci hit a double, then was sent home by Novelen’s inside-the-park home run.
Fremion, Novelen and Dorsey each had two hits. Davis Wagner started the game and went four innings, striking out six. Cuinn Morrow pitched one inning and got the win.
Guerin Catholic is 2-0 and hosts Bishop Chatard on Tuesday to begin Circle City Conference play.
