Tigers start season with Tennessee wins

Fishers opened up its season Friday with two wins at the Warrior Classic in Tennessee.
The Class 4A No. 1-ranked Tigers beat Coffee County Central 6-4 in their first game. Fishers got on the board in the second inning: Joe Hietpas got on base with a double, Carson Dunn was hit by a pitch, then Joey Brenczewski reached on error to load the bases. All three scored when Jack Brown reached on error.
The Tigers added a run in the fifth inning when Zach Cox singled in Jackson Preston. In the sixth inning, Fishers hit three straight singles, then Gavin Clayton smacked a double to score Brown and Dominic Oliverio.
Brown, Oliverio and Hietpas all had two hits. Tate Warner got the win, throwing nine strikeouts in six and two thirds innings. Kyle Manship got the final out with a strikeout, giving him a save.
The Tigers beat Siegel 10-6 in their second game. Fishers scored right away in the top of the first inning, as Brenczewski led off with a single, then Oliverio cracked a home run into center field.
Siegel scored twice in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game, then took a 3-2 lead in the second inning. The Tigers got the lead back in the top of the third; Oliverio tied the game on a wild pitch, then Mark Hughes got Fishers back in front by stealing home.
Siegel tied the game again in the fourth inning, but the Tigers got the lead back for good in the fifth inning. Oliverio got home on Preston’s RBI groundout, then Clayton’s single scored Brown.
Fishers added three runs in the sixth inning. Hughes scored on an error, Huey Dunn got home on Brown’s RBI fielder’s choice, then Brenczewski scored on a pitcher’s balk. The Tigers got one more run in the top of the seventh, Jack Backofen doubled on to base, and was sent home by Cox’s double.
Brenzcewski, Oliverio and Cox all finished with two hits. Cody Jones got the pitching win.
Fishers plays two more games today, taking on Mason and Nolensville.
