Carmel girls lacrosse wins season opener

The Carmel girls lacrosse team opened its 2022 season by beating Zionsville 12-5 Thursday at Murray Stadium.
Seniors Sophia Hanna, Hollis Rang and Grace Miller led the way for the defending state champion Greyhounds. Carmel travels to Evansville on Saturday for games against Reitz and Evansville North.

Guerin Catholic won an all-county girls game at Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday 12-7.
Gabbie Thomas scored four goals for the Golden Eagles, while Clare Alic added three goals. Southeastern stats were not available at press time.
The Golden Eagles are unbeaten at 3-0 and travel to Louisville on Saturday to play at Assumption and Dupont Manual. Thursday’s game was the season-opener for the Royals, who host Penn and Castle on Saturday.

Carmel’s boys junior varsity 1 team came back to defeat Park Tudor 9-4 in a Thursday game at Murray Stadium.
The Greyhounds trailed 2-0 after one quarter, but tied the game at halftime, then cruised through the second half. Will Stirnes led the Carmel scoring with three goals, while Will Bingman, Jake Whipple, Cain Shelbourne and Briggs Griffin all scored their first-ever goals for the Greyhounds. Charlie Rafalko handed out five assists and Jackson Weaver dished out two.
Goalkeeper Cam Smith and close defenders Josh Goodspeed, Nick Huser and Henry Hammonds all led the Carmel defense.
The ‘Hounds host Louisville St. Xavier on Saturday.
