Sheridan opened up play at Class 2A Sectional 38 at Clinton Prairie Tuesday with a 54-36 victory over Rossville.
The Blackhawks got off to a great start, leading 21-9 after the first quarter. Cecilia Timme poured in 10 points during that period. The Hornets cut into Sheridan’s lead slightly by halftime, but the ‘Hawks were still up 29-21 at the break. Sheridan then outscored Rossville in both of the next two quarters; leading 44-29 after three. Taylor Bates helped out in that quarter by going 4 for 4 from the free-throw line.
Timme scored 16 points for the ‘Hawks, with Chaney Smith adding 11 points, making at least one basket in each quarter. Kenzie Garner scored 10 points.
Sheridan is 14-5 for the season and plays Seeger in the semi-finals on Friday, weather permitting.
