Blackhawks score sweep of Delphi

Sheridan’s Larry Hobbs Hall was the site of a great night for Blackhawks basketball on Friday, as both the Sheridan girls and boys teams swept Delphi a Hoosier Heartland Conference doubleheader.
First, the Blackhawks girls cruised past the Oracles 57-38. Sheridan trailed 13-9 after the first quarter, but took control in the game’s middle quarters. The ‘Hawks outscored Delphi 11-2 in the second period to take a 20-15 halftime lead, then rolled through the third period by pouring in 22 points. Ashley Webel made three 3-pointers during the third quarter, totaling 11 points in that period.
Webel was the high scorer for the game with 14 points. Cecilia Timme added 12 points while Lilly Chesney added nine, both had points in each quarter of the game. Taylor Bates had eight points; a total of eight Sheridan players scored.
BOYS GAME
The Blackhawks boys got off to a good start, and that helped carry them to a 47-43 win over the Oracles. Sheridan led 14-7 after the first quarter; Evan Grinstead had nine points and Tyler Garner scored five. Both players made one 3-pointer during the period.
Delphi cut the Blackhawks’ lead to 27-22 by halftime and played even with Sheridan during the second half, but the ‘Hawks were able to hold on. Seven different players scored for Sheridan; Grinstead led the way with 15 points. Ethan Moistner added 12 points.
The Sheridan girls improved to 6-1 in HHC play and are in second place behind Carroll, which finished league action 7-1. The Cougars beat Tri-Central 47-29 on Friday for their HHC finale. The Blackhawks’ next game is Wednesday when they host Southmont.
Meanwhile, Sheridan’s boys picked up their first conference win, making them 1-5 in league play. The ‘Hawks are 4-10 overall and host Hamilton Heights tonight.
