The Carmel boys basketball team won a top 10 showdown at Cathedral on Wednesday.
The Greyhounds, ranked No. 3 in the IBCA one-class coaches poll and No. 4 in the Associated Press Class 4A ratings, took control early and eventually beat the Irish 71-57. Cathedral is No. 6 in the coaches poll and No. 7 in the 4A rankings.
Carmel led 19-12 after the first quarter, then increased its lead to 39-27 by halftime. The Irish cut into that lead slightly by the end of the third period, but the ‘Hounds were still ahead 51-43 going into the fourth. Carmel clinched the game with another 20-point fourth quarter.
Peter Suder had an outstanding game, totaling 28 points and eight rebounds, making three 3-pointers along the way. Suder also had five steals. Charlie Williams added 13 points and Sam Orme scored 12, making two 3s.
The Greyhounds are 10-3 for the season and are off until Friday, Jan. 21, when they host Pike.
