Dear Editor:
My service as a juror in Hamilton County gave me an appreciation for how important judges are to our community. What stayed with me most was the conduct of the trial judge who treated everyone with respect, applied the rules, and ensured the process was fair. When the judge read our verdict, only then did we learn something that we were not allowed to hear during the trial – the defendant had a prior conviction for the same charge.
At that moment, I saw what fairness in a courtroom looks like.
Fairness, respect, integrity, ethics. These qualities matter in our judges.
Emily Angel Shaw will be an outstanding judge for Hamilton County Superior Court 8. Through her work as Director of Family Law Services at Kids’ Voice of Indiana and her private law practice, Emily’s 14 years of experience across Indiana courts cover multiple areas of law, including criminal, family law, domestic violence, protective orders, and evictions.
Emily’s knowledge of family and victim resources and her experience managing a non-profit and her law office provides her with the skills required for setting up a new court.
Emily’s advocacy experience gives her an understanding of the challenges citizens have navigating the legal system.
Emily believes that our courts must keep our community safe. She believes justice should be fair, swift, and efficient and that every case is someone’s life, not just a file.
Emily Angel Shaw possesses the skills, knowledge, compassion, and integrity to be judge of Superior Court 8.
