Hamilton County Federation of Democratic Women to hold leadership workshop on finding your voice & using your influence

The Hamilton County Federation of Democratic Women (HCFDW) will hold an interactive leadership workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, designed to help women build confidence, strengthen their leadership skills, and find their voice in the rooms where decisions are made.

The workshop, “Own Your Seat at the Table: Finding Your Voice, Using Your Influence & Leading in Your Community” will take place at the HamCo Dems Headquarters at The Eller House, 7050 E. 116^th St., Fishers. Click here to RSVP.

HCFDW was founded with the belief that women should not only have a seat at the table, but should feel empowered and prepared to lead the discussion once they get there.

“Leadership isn’t limited to holding elected office or having a formal title,” HCFDW Co-Founder Jessica Irvine said. “Sometimes leadership is speaking up when you have something important to contribute, asking the question no one else has asked, respectfully challenging an idea, or bringing people together to turn a concern into action. We want women to leave this workshop feeling more confident in their ability to do those things.”

The interactive workshop will give participants an opportunity to learn and practice practical leadership skills, including:

• Speaking up: Finding ways to confidently enter a conversation and make your voice heard.
• Asking powerful questions: Using thoughtful questions to broaden conversations and move them toward solutions.
• Disagreeing without backing down: Learning how to respectfully challenge ideas while remaining engaged and constructive.
• Turning concern into action: Identifying an issue, understanding who has the ability to influence it, finding potential allies, and developing a concrete first step.

The meeting will also include an interactive discussion about what leadership actually looks like and an opportunity for participants to connect with one another and build community.

The September workshop follows several recent HCFDW programs featuring women leaders, including an immigration attorney, Democratic women serving at different levels of government in Hamilton County, and women leading organizations focused on reproductive freedom and women’s issues.

“After spending the last few months hearing from incredible women leaders, we wanted to turn the focus toward the women in the room,” HCFDW Co-Founder Libby Hogan said. “We don’t want HCFDW to simply be a place where women come to hear from leaders. We want it to be a place where women recognize their own leadership potential, develop the skills to use their voices, and encourage one another to step forward.”

HCFDW welcomes women interested in civic engagement, leadership, community involvement, advocacy, and building connections with other women in Hamilton County and beyond.
