CCPR’s Extended School Enrichment program recognized for commitment to child safety

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation’s (CCPR) Extended School Enrichment (ESE) program has earned Partner in Prevention (PIP) status from Darkness to Light, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child sexual abuse.

PIP recognizes organizations committed to creating safer environments for children through prevention. To earn PIP status, more than 90 percent of ESE management, staff, and volunteers completed Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children, a trauma- and evidence-informed training that teaches adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

“The safety and well-being of the children in our care is at the heart of everything we do at ESE,” ESE/SCS Director Jennifer Brown said. “Earning this designation reflects the work our staff does to create spaces where children are protected, supported, and able to thrive.”

ESE is celebrating its 20th year of partnership with Carmel Clay Schools, providing quality afterschool care to the Carmel Clay community. Through this partnership, CCPR offers ESE at 11 elementary schools across Carmel. Each day, students explore a variety of clubs and activities – ranging from STEM and art to sports and other hands-on activities – that encourage curiosity and lifelong learning.

Achieving PIP status builds on CCPR’s continued commitment to providing safe, high-quality programs for children and families. CCPR’s Summer Camp Series is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), and the agency as a whole is nationally accredited through the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).
