Lozena A. Yankova

May 3, 1930 – August 30, 2026

Lozena Andonova Yankova, 96, Carmel, peacefully passed away on August 30, 2026, at her home surrounded by the love of her family.

Lozena was born on May 3, 1930, in the small mountain village of Frolosh, Bulgaria, nestled in the beautiful Vlahina Mountains. She was the daughter of Andon Pazova and Katina Pazova. Raised in humble circumstances as one of six children, Lozena learned responsibility and perseverance from an early age, helping care for her younger siblings and walking nearly three miles each day through the mountains to attend school. The values she developed during those formative years shaped the remarkable woman she would become.

After marrying her beloved husband, Ivan Yankov, Lozena moved to the city of Dupnitsa, Bulgaria, where they built their family and established their careers.

Her life journey was truly extraordinary. From a remote village in the Bulgarian mountains, she moved to a larger city, later lived in Bulgaria’s capital, and eventually crossed an ocean to begin a new chapter in the United States. When her granddaughter married, Lozena and Ivan traveled to America for the wedding and chose to stay so they could remain close to the family they loved so dearly.

To her granddaughter, Lozena was far more than a grandmother. She was a teacher, mentor, role model, and friend. She taught the importance of good manners, set high expectations for academic achievement, shared unforgettable stories from her childhood, and demonstrated through her own example that determination and hard work can overcome any obstacle.

In addition to her parents, Lozena was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ivan Yankova; and all her siblings except one sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Snezhanka Ivanova; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Yvelina Ivanova Cox and Jeffrey Cox; her cherished great-grandchildren, Andrew Cox and Olivia Cox; and her beloved sister, Ilina Zasheva, along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives she touched.

The Funeral Service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Joy of All Who Sorrow Orthodox Christian Church, 1516 N. Delaware St., Indianapolis.

Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery, 1000 N. Range Line Road, Carmel.
