Franciscan Physician Network Family Medicine Clay Township is now open and accepting new patients in Carmel. The practice is conveniently located just inside the Franciscan Health Orthopedic Hospital/Forte Sports Medicine Physicians’ Offices at 10767 Illinois St., Suite 1300.
The practice currently has a team of four physicians and a nurse practitioner, with a second nurse practitioner starting in January 2027.
- Akxay Patel, DO, is board-certified in family medicine and a graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Long Island. He completed residency training at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.
- Rina Patel, MD, is board-certified in family medicine and a graduate of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Medical College in India. She completed residency training at St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y.
- Justin Rice, MD, is board-certified in family medicine and a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed residency training at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis.
- Katelyn Smiley, DO, is board-certified in family medicine and a graduate of the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Indianapolis. She completed residency training at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis and will begin seeing patients in September.
- Sara Brainerd, NP, has a master’s degree in adult/gerontology primary care nursing from Indiana University.
- Angela Yang, NP, has a master’s degree in family practice nursing from Indiana University and will start in January of 2027.
