At the Carmel City Council meeting on Monday, July 20, Mayor Sue Finkam shared news on a top public safety priority: bringing a seventh fire station to the city’s northwest side.
While the need for a new station has been recognized for years, the challenge was always finding a fiscally responsible way to build it.
Instead of building from scratch, the proposal would transform underutilized space within the city’s existing westside water distribution facility. According to city officials, repurposing this asset will cut construction costs, accelerate the timeline, and get firefighters and lifesaving equipment to northwest residents much faster.
As a bonus, this plan also allows the city to relocate fleet maintenance operations and create extra training space for the Carmel Fire Department.
