Westfield awarded $121,500 Homeland Security grant for new Emergency Operations Center

The City of Westfield has been awarded $121,500 through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) State Homeland Security Program for the Federal Fiscal Year 2025.

The grant will support technology upgrades for the city’s new Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which is being developed as part of the new Westfield Police Department headquarters.

The project will provide updated communication tools, digital displays, secure access technology, and other equipment that will help Westfield Police, Westfield Fire, Emergency Management, the city’s Informatics Department, and regional partners share information and coordinate more effectively during emergencies.

“This investment will help ensure our public safety teams have reliable technology and timely information when every second matters,” Mayor Scott Willis said. “As Westfield continues to grow and host major events, we must also continue strengthening our ability to prepare for and respond to emergencies. We appreciate the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s support of this important project.”

The EOC will serve as a central location for coordinating responses to severe weather, public safety incidents, cyber threats, large-scale events, and other emergencies. The grant-funded improvements will make it easier for multiple agencies to work together, view the same information, and make informed decisions in real time.

The project will also strengthen the city’s technology systems by improving reliability, protecting sensitive information, and reducing the risk of interruptions during an emergency. City assessments, training exercises, and reviews of previous events identified the need for more secure and connected communication tools.

The State Homeland Security Program provides federal funding to help state and local agencies prepare for, protect against and respond to terrorism, natural disasters and other major emergencies.
