Russell Duane Moore

January 12, 1936 – July 5, 2026

Russell Duane Moore, known warmly by all as Russ, passed away at the age of 90 on July 5, 2026. Born on January 12, 1936, in Shelbyville, Ind., Russ was the epitome of a loyal and humble man who lived his life with great love and a sense of humor that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Russell shared a beautiful life with his late wife, Eleanor Ann (Fox), whom he married on October 8, 1955. Their love story was a testament to their dedication and devotion, and their shared joy in raising their family was evident to all.

He was a loving father to Philip (Dana) Moore, Jamie (Kelly) Smeltzer, and the late Julie Dunn. His witty banter and teasing brought much joy to his grandchildren – Joshua, Matthew, Christina, Elisabeth, Katy, Tayler, Jessica, Patrick, Sierra, and Chase – and his love extended to his 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Gerald Moore, Keith (Jean) Moore, and Irma (Robert) Kennedy. He is also survived by sisters-in-laws, Sandy (Jerry) Moore, June Tyner, Norita Alexander and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Frankie Moore; brothers, Jerry and Leon; as well as sisters-in-law, Annabel (Leon) and Marilyn (Gerald).

Before retiring in 2001, Russ had a successful career as a machinist in the manufacturing industry with Vibromatic. His work ethic was commendable, and his colleagues admired his skills and the joy he brought to the workplace. His retirement years were filled with hobbies that he loved – gardening, puzzles, fishing, and being a handyman. He loved raising raspberries and blackberries and loved to partake in a delicious raspberry cobbler. He took great pleasure in playing ping pong, becoming a three-time Walnut Grove High School Ping-Pong champion, and his love for sweet tea was well known. His epic storytelling abilities, especially his penchant for a good joke, made him a true enjoyment of family gatherings.

Russ was a devoted member of his church and served dutifully as a choir member and trustee. Russ also served as a leader for the boy scouts for several years. His faith was a constant source of strength and guidance throughout his life. His life was a living example of his belief in the importance of family.

Russell’s family will welcome visitors from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Arcadia Brethren Church, 8989 E. 266th St., Arcadia. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the same location with Pastor Mark Knapp officiating. All services are under the direction of Hartley-Dunnichay Funeral Homes – Cicero.

In memory of Russell, contributions may be made to the Yellowbox Feeding Team at feedingteam.org.

We invite you to leave your memories and upload photos to the memorial page as a tribute to Russell’s life. His humble spirit, loving heart, and witty humor will forever remain in our hearts.
