The Westfield Lions Club demonstrated its ongoing support for the city’s first responders during a weekend of service that included providing lunch for a police recruiting event.

On Saturday, July 11, the Lions held a cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Westfield Police Department’s open house recruiting event at Station 384 at the Public Safety Building. Lions volunteers welcomed prospective police officers by serving hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, pasta salad, and desserts. Club members supplied the grill, food, and beverages for the event.

Activities like this reflect the club’s longstanding partnership with first responders. Among those efforts is the Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund. This year’s annual “Fore the First Responders” golf outing will raise money to purchase a Kevlar vest for the Westfield Police Department’s newest K-9 officer and additional AED units for the Westfield Fire Department.

“Supporting our police officers and firefighters is one of the many ways we give back to the community,” Lions Club President Gary Smith said. “Whether it’s serving lunch, learning lifesaving CPR or raising funds for equipment, we’re proud to stand behind the men and women who protect Westfield every day.”

The golf outing will be held Sept. 15 at Wood Wind Golf Course, 2302 W. 161st St., Westfield. Anyone interested in playing or being a sponsor can contact Bob Bischoff at (317) 502-4099 or email him at rdbseed@gmail.com for more information.

The Westfield Lions have been proudly serving the Westfield community since 1930. Anyone interested in finding out more about the club or how to join can go to WestfieldLions.org.
