There is no shortage of contenders for the big trophy at this week’s IHSAA boys golf state finals.
That includes the four Hamilton County teams that qualified. Defending state champion Westfield, Guerin Catholic, Hamilton Southeastern and Noblesville all have the talent and drive to be the last team standing once the 36th hole of golf is completed on Wednesday.
A total of 18 teams qualified for state, three from each of the six regionals that took place last week. The lowest team score is Castle’s 291, which it carded at the Providence regional at Champions Pointe Golf Club.
The lowest individual scores out of the regional came from The Players Club, site of the Yorktown regional. Mt. Vernon’s Elijah Lemmon and Pendleton Heights’ Hayden Fox both scored 67 at that meet, with Lemmon winning medalist in a playoff.
Action begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday with the first round. Guerin Catholic will start from the first tee between 8:50 and 9:30 a.m., while Noblesville and Westfield will begin from the first team between 9:40 and 10:20 a.m. Hamilton Southeastern starts from the 10th tee between 9:20 and 10 a.m.
