Huskies zoom past Connersville

Hamilton Heights took care of Sectional 24 host Connersville in a Thursday semifinal game, winning 13-3 in five innings to advance to tonight’s championship game.

The Huskies scored in all five innings. Heights led 3-1 after the first inning: Hannah Dent singled in Heather Crays, Lily Cash batted in Dent and McKenzie Jackson scored after Olivia Turner reached on an error.

In the second inning, Dent hit a one-out double, then Kamryn Rhoton was intentionally walked. Cash came up next and singled both runners in, giving the Huskies a 5-2 lead.

Heights put up five runs in the third inning. Taya Trosper hit a double and Crays reached on a dropped third strike. Dent hit a single, then Jackson batted in Trosper and Crays, moving Dent to third. Rhoton came up next and sent everyone home with a left field home run. The Huskies now led 10-2.

Connersville scored a run in the top of the fourth, but Heights answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Crays led off with a double and scored on Jackson’s sacrifice bunt, then Dent got home when Cash reached on an error.

The Huskies ended the game with no outs in the fifth. Ellie Engle drew a walk and moved to second base after Trosper drew a walk. Crays loaded the bases with a single, then Dent sent a base hit into right field, scoring Engle to finish the game.

Dent was perfect at the plate, going 5-for-5. Cash went 3-for-4. Jackson and Crays both had two hits. Crays pitched all five innings, striking out two.

Heights is 13-8 and plays Yorktown tonight in the championship game. The Tigers beat Jay County 8-2 in the other semifinal.

Sheridan falls to Frankton

Sheridan lost in the semifinals of Sectional 39 at Thursday, falling 6-0 to Frankton.

Amiyah Doss had the Blackhawks’ only two hits. Norah Adams pitched a complete game, with one strikeout.

Sheridan finished its season 6-15.
