The Carmel boys volleyball qualified for the IHSAA state finals for the first time after cruising through the Peru regional on Saturday, May 23.
The Greyhounds started with a semifinal sweep of Fort Wayne Carroll 25-14, 25-17, 25-23. Thomas Kuehl and Jack Kovac both hit seven kills, with Shepard Spidel dishing out 46 assists. Jett Burke dominated the defense with 27 digs, while Brice Hagaman collected 11 digs.
Carmel rolled past Zionsville in an another sweep for the championship. The set scores were 25-18, 25-12, 25-19.
Kuehl and Eli Philistin-Lynch both spiked 14 kills, followed by 10 for Ian Czarnecki. Hagaman served two aces and Spidel handed out 41 assists. Kovac made four blocks, while Burke scooped up 14 digs.
The state finals will be played at Lawrence North on Saturday, May 30. The Greyhounds (28-6) play Roncalli (31-3) in the first semifinal, which begins at 11 a.m. and will be followed by the second semifinal between Lake Central (25-2) and Cathedral (21-12).
The championship match is set for 6 p.m.
