Roundup: Hounds cruise to victory, Rocks beat Ben Davis

Carmel cruised to a 10-0, five-inning win over Eastern Hancock Friday at Cherry Tree Softball Complex.

Chloe Junkersfield had two hits, a single and a double, to drive in four runs and also scored twice. Jayden Kleiner hit a double and scored three runs. Avery Klein smacked a three-run double in the fourth inning. Taylor Vietch scored two runs.

Emily Smith pitched all five innings, tossing four strikeouts and allowing one hit.

Carmel is 11-11 and hosts Greenfield-Central this evening.

Westfield took care of Ben Davis 17-3 on Saturday.

Alyssa Ayers blasted two home runs, totaling three RBIs. Ayers had three hits in all. Cam Pulice and Mariana Lopez both had four hits, with Lopez a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Lopez hit a home run, and totaled three RBIs and three runs scored for the game.

Pulice hit a triple and a double during the game, with Bella Blakeley smacking a triple and Reese Gettinger hitting a double. Makayla Watson and Annika Lawrence both scored three runs and had two hits.

Mac Delph got the pitching win, striking out seven and allowing one hit.

Westfield is 12-9-1 and plays a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game tonight at Avon.

Hamilton Heights fell 6-5 at Benton Central Friday, May 15 in the Hoosier Conference playoff game.

The Bison scored a run in the first inning, but the Huskies answered in the top of the second. Melanee Forrester doubled in Ellie Engle. Heights took a 2-1 lead in the third inning: McKenzie Jackson hit a triple, then scored on Kamryn Rhoton’s RBI groundout.

Benton Central tied the game in the bottom of the third. Hannah Dent broke the tie in the top of the fifth, doubling in Heather Crays for a 3-2 Heights lead.

But the Bison came back, scoring twice in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-3. Rhoton smacked a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, also scoring Crays and giving Heights a 5-4 lead. Benton Central answered that in the bottom of the seventh, hitting its own two-run homer for the win.

Dent was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Crays and Jackson both had two hits, including a double for Jackson. Crays pitched a complete game, striking out four.

The Huskies are 11-7 and host Alexandria this afternoon.

Guerin Catholic dropped two games over the weekend.

The Golden Eagles fell to Western Boone 8-1 on Friday, May 15. Jillian Davis doubled in Emily Powers during the third inning for the Golden Eagles’ run.

Gia Crishon pitched a complete game, striking out six.

Guerin Catholic lost at Greenfield-Central 7-6 in a five-inning game on Saturday, May 16.

The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the first inning: Jillian Davis doubled Kate Brady Home, Ava Augustinovicz singled in Powers, then Davis scored after Aggie Waymouth drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Cougars scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. GC answered back in the top of the second, as Brady scored after Augustinovicz reached on an error.

Greenfield took the lead in the fourth inning by scoring six runs. Guerin Catholic scored twice in the fifth inning, as Waymouth singled in Crishon and Izzy Phillips got home on Riley Fredericks’ RBI fielder’s choice.

Augustinovicz pitched the entire game, striking out four and allowing only three hits.

Guerin Catholic is 6-8 and plays at Roncalli Wednesday in a Circle City Conference game.
