Have you found a folded bag in your mailbox, along with a postcard? This is for the upcoming 34th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, coming up on Saturday, May 9.
Sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in America! Local NALC Union 888 is partnering with Hamilton County Harvest Food Bank, Delaware Township Trustee Office, and Open Doors Food Pantry to organize and prepare for the food drive.
The letter carriers make this one of the easiest food drives you can participate in. Fill a bag with non-perishable food items and then place the bag by your mailbox. Your mail carrier will pick up the filled bags on May 9. All food donated will be distributed to food pantries within Hamilton County.
According to Feeding America, there are 32,160 food-insecure individuals here in Hamilton County, and many are children. In fact, according to the Indiana Department of Education, there were 12,897 students on free and reduced lunch during the 2024-2025 school year.
The past few years have stretched the resources of the local food support network with increased demand as high as 50 percent and more at some local food pantries. Your donation will help support those who are food insecure within our community.
Example of items to donate include pancake mix, boxed cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, soups, pasta, and crackers. See the full list above.
