Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation to host Unified 5K (+1-Miler) event

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) invites the community to participate in its annual Unified 5K (+1-Miler) Event at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Central Park trails.

Formerly known as the Adaptive 5K, this event welcomes participants of all ages and abilities to run or walk a 5K or 1-mile course in support of adaptive recreation programs.

The Unified 5K offers a welcoming, supportive race experience for the entire community. With both a 5K and 1-mile option, participants can choose the distance that best fits their comfort level and enjoy the event in a way that works for them.

Additionally, the course follows the Central Park trails and is fully accessible for individuals who use wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids. The event is also designed to be sensory-friendly, and additional support is available for individuals with disabilities.

“The Unified 5K is all about creating a space where everyone can participate, feel supported and celebrate crossing the finish line together,” CCPR Inclusion Program Supervisor Kelvin Solares said. “Whether you’re running, walking or watching from the sidelines, this event is a reminder that recreation is for everyone.”

Proceeds from the event support CCPR’s continued efforts to provide meaningful, low-cost adaptive recreation programs for individuals with disabilities.

Volunteers play an important role in the event’s success. If you are interested in volunteering, click here to create your CCPR volunteer account. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Registration is now open, and pre-registration is required. The cost is $20 per participant.

The start and finish line will be located near The Waterpark parking lot. Participant parking will be available at the Monon Community Center West building, with signage directing attendees to the course.

The Unified 5K is made possible through the generous support of Megan Varnu and family, as well as these additional sponsors: Centier Bank, Carmel Clay Parks Foundation, BeeFree Gluten-Free Bakery, Carmel Trophies Awards & Gifts and Tikal Homes.
